OVERVIEW
Executives in the contemporary business environment are exposed to high levels of risk and uncertainty. In this environment, developing and maintaining strategic thinking skills, combined with understanding strategy development, execution, and flexibility become the basis of sustainable competitive advantage. Embracing strategic thinking equips executives with necessary tools and techniques of turbulent environment analysis and quality strategic diagnosis. The managers need to perform in-depth internal and external environment analysis, understand the risks, develop flexible strategic options, and prepare useful tools for strategy execution.
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND MAIN OBJECTIVE
This course will emphasize the strategic agility of companies required to thrive in uncertain environment. The strategic agility incorporates business model flexibility as well as strategic thinking skills of executives. The participants will be exposed to various tools and techniques to make sense of the environmental issues and develop their strategic thinking skills.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
After completing this course, the participants will first develop and enhance their strategic thinking. Additionally, they will be equipped with knowledge and skills for business environment analysis, strategy, and business model development, as well as for strategy execution, monitoring and control.
CONTENT
The course is divided into three modules.
Module 1: Strategic thinking and strategic orientation (with focus on proactive and interactive approaches); strategic decision making; the process of strategic management; Balanced Scorecard and Strategy Maps frameworks.
Module 2: Business environment analysis (internal and external); environment assessment; analysis of the macro environment and its impact on business performance; industry analysis and strategic groups framework; analysis of sources of competitive advantage in digital era.
Module 3: Business models in digital age; business model flexibility; strategy evolution in digital era; strategy selection and execution; contemporary business architectures; implementation and strategy measurement.
FACULTY MEMBER
Vladimir Dzenopoljac is the associate professor of Strategic Management at College of Business and Economics, United Arab Emirates University. Previously, he was engaged as the associate professor, director of the MBA program, and Business Consulting Center coordinator at the College of Business Administration, American University of the Middle East, Kuwait. From 2003 to 2016 he was the assistant professor of Strategic Management at Faculty of Economics, University of Kragujevac, Serbia. He received his PhD Degree from the University of Kragujevac, Serbia, in the field of the impact of intellectual capital on value creation in contemporary enterprises. Alongside his academic career, Vladimir was providing business consultancy services in the fields of strategy development and execution, business planning, financial planning and analysis, and leadership. His areas of professional interest are strategy development and execution and intellectual capital management in contemporary organizations.
TARGET GROUP
This course is designed for senior level executives who are responsible for functional, business or corporate strategies, people who make critical business decisions in their functions. Executives who are moving into these roles and wish to enhance their strategic thinking skills, will also benefit from the course.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
It is assumed participants are able to understand learning material in English, and write assignments and follow/participate in discussions on strategic innovation in English.

CERTIFICATE
Obtain a Certificate of Successful Completion by demonstrating knowledge, understanding and skills of the learning outcomes in practical assessments at the end of the course.
